My E-Prime day:
I'm not going to list my daily activities online cause it might be inappropriate, no really cause it will just feel like a cooking list and get boring. Rather I would like to share my E-Prime experiences:
I grew up in LA where I had a tendency to speak in E-Prime. Maybe this was because I was younger or just a little more passive who knows, but either way when I moved to Boston in between Harvard and MIT I had a really hard time using E-Prime. My first two years there were very challenging due to the Standard English norm there. I got in many arguments and was often told to stop talking in E-Prime because it was a given and made me look weak or something I don't know. Now living back in CA I find the reverse once again to be the case. It makes sense due to the population I was surrounded by but its still fun how communication boundries are not just language related.
Synthesis:
I often think religion and science are really the same thing just two sides of the same coin, both end up looking for the same thing and might just get to the same place. (Let me know once you know.)When looking at East and West philosophies to me they are just a different language but still trying to get to the same place. We all have our experience and reference points that high light to us as an individual or as a culture, certain ways of doing or thinking about things, but I do believe that we overall are very similar. The tricky part I believe is having all sides flexible to hear, listen, and share with an open mind. Fear seems to be a very powerful thing that keeps people and ideas apart, which is relevant but sad.

week 9
Newton's Laws and me:
I have Liver stagnation, hence there are things, such as Qi that is the object, inside me that is at rest. This is like the rock in the middle of the stream that is to great for the water to move. Yet if there is a great rain, and branches(acupuncture needles and herbs) start flowing down the stream, maybe this is enough force to move the rock(my stagnant liver QI). The Qi outside my stagnant liver Qi collides with my stagnant Qi and heat is released and all is better. This is the westerns new age application of Newtons laws.
Energy Efficient culture:
Far from it, either we don't know enough about energy or we're kept dumb by capitalistic greed to fully be efficient in our use and application of energy. We are a wasteful over consuming society stuck on habits and patterns, leaving the majority narrow minded and ignorant to the possibility of energy efficiency. Did I just say that all.. I do have faith in humanity but I also see a long road ahead of us.
Descartes' and his answers:
At first thought reductionism can be somewhat off putting, yet in TCM it interestingly makes sense. Descartes' reductionism theory is such that one phenomena can be explained by another. In TCM we often look for the root of problems or roots of problems by means of the branches they create. So in some sense we are reducing our personal health patterns based on the organs, Qi, diet, weather, season, and even the color of clothing one wears. You can see how similar this gets to being sick based on the poorly-manufactured clock. Just now a days it might be your cell phone or your poorly-manufactured plastic drinking bottle. It might just be that Descartes was ahead of his time and just misunderstood.

week 8 Chaos Theory (can you say that together hmm)
"ordered chaos" :
My western rooted mind still has difficulty understanding chaos, but I can see similarities in the idea expressed and TCM. The idea of "ordered chaos" where variables or a set of variables change with time, is similar to the idea of acupuncture where needling have effects that create changes in a body that spiral out with time.
Fractals/patterns/complex systems :
This is similar to having partial control over your destiny. There is a larger picture which each one of use is drop of water too, and it is this connection that we have no control over. This larger picture is always in motion and part of a complex system. The individual selves of droplets can have some control over their little bubble worlds to speed up or slow down their journey. But ultimately we're just along for the ride so we might as well enjoy it. We can have some effect, say all the droplets leaned one way then we could carve out a different path. This is similar to power of intention and the changing patterns of fractures. I know I'm branching a bit here but its a thought.
Consciousness out of chaos:
The thought that goes off in my head with this idea is that if we are all part of the blanket then we do infact already know everything we just need to become aware of our connectedness. I really want to work on this because then I would never have to study and I would truly be a know it all from birth, and further evolution would take on a whole new meaning.

week 6
Good vibrations:
I believe good and bad are man made constructs, vibrations are just what they are. In my woman made construct anything that moves is good, even things that appear unpleasant at first have a greater path beyond our ability to see, that are still good.
Resonance in my world:
Everything has a signature, or in this case a resonance. When doing massage work and I have a client that needs grounding, I tend to think about being in the redwoods and their intense roots and remember their signature. I then try to share this specific signature with the person I'm working with and have had amazing results. The same is the case when two like minded people cross paths, there tends to be a moment of attraction which I believe to be the two people matching up signatures.
Connection between energy and Qi:
In some sense they can just be a different word from different cultures to explain the same thing. When explaining either of these to people I do first try to understand their comfort level with foreign ideas or if they are foreign at all. If I talk about energy I usually say its the heat that comes off the road on a hot day or the heat coming off your body. When talking about Qi I usually say I don't know but its a lot like what I said about energy.

week 5
My symmetrical world.
if things had a equal opposite, then when close together they would disappear. Maybe in certain ways things are alike but with out variation I believe systems would collapse on to themselves.
CP violation
It is interesting in that it shows the disarrangement of things, and odd behaviors that help us to explain how littel we really know and understand.
Sacred Geometry
To me sacred geometry is interesting in how knowledge thousands of years old used the geometry of the stars to accurately record and predict present day events.

Week 4
1. E =mc2 affects me in the way that it is a foundation that much of science if based on and limits our understand in someways while simultaneously trying to better understand things. At times putting rules to things can have an effect like blinders on a horse and it gets harder to see outside a narrow view.
2. The four forces = The first three I believe work on a universal level, gravity on the other hand I believe is location bound. To apply all into a smooth flowing formula there are a lot of blanks that i believe still need to be filled in. To try to force fit the four into a formula as it is right now is putting those blinders mentioned above back on.
3. The function of gravity is to give things with mass a home, and in a way a id tag for its place of orgin.

week 3
synchronicity:
If synchronicity is defined as coincidence then I don't believe in it. I feel that it is more our limited understanding of the universe that makes unexplainable things seem magical at times. As in Bell's article there might be an fundamental level of connectedness that all things play part to. If you take this idea and skew our understanding of time then it is possible for things to happen simultaneously or even, in our limited understanding, in the future.
explaining Connectivity:
Once again I like Bell's idea of an fundamental level of connectedness. Based on what I know, things are always happening that prove there is a permanent connection. For example, when hanging out with friends, I have answered a question they asked, and they look over at me and are surprised. When I ask them what or why they're surprised they respond, that they were thinking of asking me that question but didn't say it out loud. Another example would be this woman I know dreamt of a dog and had this odd feeling that it was her dog but in waking life she didn't have a dog. About a month later her friends friend had to move and needed to find a home for their dog, it was the same dog she dreamt about, they now live together(her and the dog that is). As in my answer to the first question I think things are always connected, its just the level of awareness one has, as well as the level of awareness one is able to have, that make things seem strange or not. Because I'm a conspiracy theorist, I believe its the few people in power that go threw a lot of trouble to keep people as disconnected and numb as possible, otherwise the mental hospitals would be overloaded with all the madness that is going on in the world.

week 2
Uncertainty:
I go back and forth with the idea that you control your life(future) and there is a greater plan outside your control. I like what was said in class about how ideas use us as vehicles to bring them into creation but that they (the ideas)in themselves have their own life. My western mind says it can only be one way, then my expanded mind says why not all ways and anyways at once. I believe (at least for the moment) that there are aspects to life that are uncertain and out of our control but there are also aspects that are very much in our control. If you think of life as though your a twig being carried by an ocean wave, you can't control things but you can be present and enjoy the ride.
Causality:
I believe in cause and effect, but if you view things as all connected then its hard to understand this idea. Like in the example given in class you think of someone then the phone rings, if all things are connected then there is no difference as to which came first. It seems as though there is a cause which creates an effect, it just might be that the cause is not fully understood.
Universe weird:
No I think humans are weird for trying to categorizing everything, but that is also part of our nature. I think the universe is beautiful and has a pattern it just might be bigger then our ability to see or comprehend.

first class and reviews -
I loved the dynamic of the first class and lack of math I'm sure relieved a lot of pressure including myself. It is also nice because it gives us all a chance to start working with one another before we start needling each other.
The articles: The first article was a nice fluffy intro to things a good start to a scary topic. It wasn't all that in depth but I felt it was perfect for an intro. The first link to all the simulator project was a lot of fun and very interesting though a little more explanation for what each was about would have been nice. I will go back and explore this link some more. The last to articles where a little more over my head but I did start finally having a little recall occur. The last article, I just kept thinking about black holes and black body radiation and the incoherent or coherent space/step/wave/unknown. In other words it got me thinking but a lot of the information is still over my head, but seeing that top physicist still disagree on the two theories I feel lost in good company. Maybe when I finish the last article some light will shine my way unless it is absorbed in the black space and bypasses me completely.

quiz 1 (9-03-08)
1. It's fluidity and connectedness. It is a way of life and understanding life that seems to make sense to me. As I learn more about Chinese Medicine maybe this will change or grow, figure that out later.
2. love it, love trying to understand things, intimidated and intrigued all at the same time
3. yes, my time is always fluctuating in its speed. Having schedules tends to mess me all up and locks me into pattens, but I priorities these things.
